Commodore OS is a
community driven Linux distribution for Commodore enthusiasts that is designed to unleash your creative potential
as well as enjoy your computing experience to the fullest.
Commodore computers were well known for their unique operating environments, so
we seek to do the same, by providing a distinctive,
attractive, advanced and fun operating system experience. Intended for
pre-installation on all future Commodore USA hardware, Commodore OS comes
pre-loaded with dozens of the latest and greatest productivity, creativity and
education software the open source world has to offer. Featuring dozens of
exciting 3D games, the latest web browsing technology, a Microsoft Word
compatible Office Suite, advanced graphical manipulation programs, 3D raytracing
software, advanced software development tools and languages, photo and movie
editing and sound and music composition programs, there is no task too big or
too small for our new Commodore or AMIGA computers to accomplish.
Feeling nostalgic? Commodore OS will
provide functionality that will allow it to be classic Commodore compatible,
with integrated features to launch classic 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit era software
via emulation easily. Games and demos for the Commodore PET, VIC-20, CBM-II, C16, C64, C128 and
Commodore AMIGA can be launched effortlessly.
No need to bother with floppy disks, as many games can be legally puchased and
downloaded from the internet directly on to your computer.
All
the computers we sell come with a version of Ubuntu and Canonical can
be contacted for software support. Our machines are also capable of running Microsoft
Windows (sold separately). Windows can be launched either from a multi boot menu
at startup (installed by Commodore OS), or seamlessly integrated within
Commodore OS itself. This flexibility allows you to easily access the strengths
of each operating system installed on your new Commodore machine.
The Commodore OS project was created
as an operating system option for Commodore enthusiasts purchasing
Commodore USA computers. It is but the first step on the path to creating the
ultimate Commodore experience for our customers.
We apologize, but at this time, when Commodore OS is launched telephone support
will not be available..

There you will also find assistance and advice should
you experience technical difficulties with Commodore OS.
Commodore OS is a linux derivative and is free open source software, that will be
available for download freely when ready. This retro-futuristic OS experience
takes design cues in its appearance from classic Commodore and Amiga operating
systems and evolves them further to create a distinctive and modern 21st century
look which will become the spirit of our new Commodore machines. The selection
of software included also has a retro slant which would be familiar to many
Commodore fans, making them feel at home. It features the latest iteration of the classic Gnome 2.x user interface, which many prefer for its simplicity, stability and
straight forward access to applications.
Commodore OS version 1.0 stands on the shoulders of giants, with a lineage that traces
back to fantastic linux operating system distributions such as Debian, Ubuntu and Mint,
which you might also be interested in installing on our machines. Commodore OS
auto-installs a graphical operating system boot menu facilitating this further,
making your new Commodore machine a technology tinkerers delight.
Commodore OS will shortly be entering beta testing. If you would like to become
a beta-tester, lend your extensive Linux software experience to further
developing this exciting
new project or are interested in developing software for our upcoming app store,
please e-mail
lan@commodoreusa.net. (Please note that due to the enormous amount of enquiries
we have received we will now only consider applicants who have purchased
Commodore USA products). Note also that for testing, a high bandwidth internet
connection will be required and a dedicated primary hard disk partition will be
used (not VMs).
We would like to thank our pre-order customers for placing their faith in us,
and hope you enjoy your new machines.
We would also like to thank all our supporters for their patience, as we attempt
to revive the legendary Commodore brand.
It has surely been a difficult road but we believe you will enjoy the final
product. The best is yet to come.
